Save the Date & Your Stuff for the PTA Goodwill Donation Drive - March 26…

On Saturday, March 26, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Goodwill trucks will be at the high school parking lot collecting gently-used items.  This is a fundraiser for the LCHS 7/8 PTA, with Goodwill paying the PTA $1,000 - $2,000 per truckload.  All donated items must be in good condition, "sellable as is." Broken items or furniture with holes, rips or stains WILL NOT be accepted. Please tell your friends and family members to donate items and help raise money for our school. Important Information About Our Schools

On Wednesday, February 16 from 6:00-7:30 is a very important Town Hall Meeting about the financial crisis facing our schools. Jim Statton, Scott Tracy and Valerie Aenille-Rocha will be speaking. Whether you have kids in the school or not, this meeting is important to everyone in La Canada as the quality of the school district weighs heavily on the value of our homes. The meeting will be held in the La Canada High School Auditorium. If you have questions for the panel, send your questions in advance to rsvp@lcftaskforce.org.

I will be there to get information on the school district that both of my children attend and to educate myself about the financial repercussions of the state budget cuts on our community. Our district has seen drastic cuts before (think Prop. 13) so I am confident we will prevail. Hope to see you there!

Flintridge Books and Coffehouse-This Saturday May 22 at 11:00 meet award winning author Linzi Glass. Her new book "Finding Danny" about a rescue dog will be featured. The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA Mobile Unit will be on hand should you find a place in your heart for a new 4-legged friend!

On May 27, the 3 La Canada elementary schools (PCR, LCE,PCY) will host their annual open house from 6:30-8:00. If you are new to the area or considering La Canada schools, this is a great opportunity to tour the campuses and meet the faculty.

The evactuation site is at La Canada High School. The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA is there to assist with your pets or you can bring them directly to the shelter at 361 S. Raymond Ave., between Del Mar and California. Be safe...

LCUSD registration information

If you have preschool age children and are thinking of moving to La Canada or already live here, there is an orientation for incoming kindergarten parents on Wednesday, January 20 at 7:00. This year it will be held in the Paradise Canyon Elementary School Multipurpose Room. It is very informative and a great way to familiarize yourself with the kindergarten program and the school district.

Important dates:

If you have older children currently attending a LCUSD elementary school, you can register your incoming kindergarten student on Thursday, February 4 at your neighborhood elementary school.

Enrollment for kindergarten if you are new to the district begins Monday, February 8. Registration packets will be available at the school sites after February 1 (school boundaries map on the right). I recommend getting there around 7:00 am (on the 8th) if you want to insure morning kindergarten. My friend Lori and I, both new to the district were numbers 2 and 3 in line and had no problem getting morning K. You will need:

Proof of Residence- tax bill, escrow papers or original lease agreement in the parent/guardian's name

3 current utility bills, excluding phone (water, gas, trash, cable, etc)

Official birth certificate

Immunization records (the requirements are in the registration packets, but you do have a little leeway if your child has not received all of them. I turned in my son's early summer).

School is Starting!

OK...we finally got the call. School starts tomorrow and I have never been more ready. I spent the afternoon at Jumpin' Jammin' with my dear friend Lori and our sweaty children. Had wine been served and a shuttle provided to take us home, it would have been a much more pleasant experience. In a nutshell, if they have to seal the doors shut in the classroom to prevent ash from coming in, I am ready for my son to start school. We are grating on each other's last nerves, and this is only kindergarten. What happens with puberty? Driving? Dating? As long as our hills do not burn for the next 60 years and we are not locked inside together for more than 24 hours, I think I can do this...

No School Tomorrow

The City just posted the news that school will not be starting tomorrow. My son is thrilled! Check the websites for updates on the fire and school closures. School information is posted every afternoon.
